The State Capital  is a good place to start. It is the largest  city in the most populous state and also the oldest European Settlement. Despite Australia being considered a young country is is rich in history, much of it connected to the Gold Rush and the westward expansion.

Explore its early buildings and dine at the adjacent "Rocks", after stroll the many parks, or take a bus to superb Bondi or Manly Beach for a swim in the surf.
